May 3, Brunch Meeting
The AAUW (IA) Davenport - Bettendorf brunch is at 9:15 AM at the Kahl Building in downtown Davenport. There is a parking lot on the side street. The menu is egg casserole, ham, muffins, fruit salad, coffee and tea.
Make a check of $11 payable to Dav/Bet branch of AAUW and send it to Sheila Engel, 2615W 36th St, Davenport, IA 52806. Reservations can be made by phone at 563-391-2916. Reservations made over the phone can be mailed in or paid at the door; BUT if the person doesn't attend, then that the reservation must still be paid.

History: AAUW was founded in 1882. The Tri-City Branch (Association of Collegiate Alumnae) was organized in 1909. The Davenport Branch was organized in 1938. The name was changed to Davenport-Bettendorf Branch in 1927.
Purpose: The goals shall be
· to unite the alumnae of colleges and universities for practical educational work;
· to concentrate and to increase their influence in the community for the solution of social and civic problems; and
· to participate in the development and promotion of the policies and programs of AAUW.
Membership: Membership is open to any graduate of a nationally accredited college or university with an associate’s degree or above. Dues for 2007-08 are $64.00.

Meetings are once a month at various locations.

2006-2007 Accomplishments:
The Davenport-Bettendorf branch fulfilled AAUW’s missions during the 2006-07 year through the following activities:
AAUW – Powerful advocate of equity for women
· held a seminar on financial security for women.
· co-sponsored a women’s workshop on “unlocking your earning potential”
·
AAUW – Visible philanthropist supporting women’s education
· Through fundraising and bequests, we were able to increase our college scholarships for women from three to six during the 2006-2007 year.
AAUW – Leader in gender equity research
· Have sponsored numerous college and university meetings to find common ground between the schools, and introduce them to AAUW goals and assets.
· Underwrote memberships for interested people
· Started a faculty/staff/student AAUW group
AAUW – Personal and leadership skill development
· Leadership roles in many of the above mentioned activities.
· Involvement in study groups and general meetings
AAUW - Social change for our nation and community
· Co-sponsored an Iowa candidate forum prior to the fall primaries.
· Co-sponsored three highly-attended legislative forums for the community

The Tatler* is published by the Davenport-Bettendorf Branch of the American Association of University Women. AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership.
The Tatler* was the name of a literary periodical published in the 18th century by Addison and Steele. This newsletter uses the original spelling for its historical significance.
The newsletter is published five times per year: Sept - Oct., Nov- Dec, Jan -Feb, Mar - April, and May-summer. Email submissions by the 10th of the month prior to: Linda Greenlee: john.greenlee@mchsi.com.
