Denison Area Branch is unique! Membership includes three 50-year members. Members are drawn from seven Western Iowa communities. Meeting times and places vary. Large projects have become biennial efforts; so, in 2006-2007, we have “Formulas for Successful Girls” and a Candidate Forum. “Formulas for Successful Girls” (5^th and 6^th grade girls from area schools) is an award program that encourages girls to consider math, science and computer science careers. Girls attend a morning of workshops. Parents have special seminars designed for them.

The projects this year include Domestic Abuse Prevention for area Jr. and Sr. girls. In May, we will produce our 6^th Woman of Distinction Awards Day.

PROGRAMS

• August 27, 6:30 p.m., New member "Round-up" pot luck at Boyer Valley School community room, Dunlap. Mary Koenig will present the program: New Technology in the Classroom.
   

• September 24, 6:00 p.m., "Get Acquainted Hour" at the Hausbarn in Manning. Dinner at Cliff's at 7:00 P.M.
   

• October 29, 6:00 p.m. Dinner at Cronk's meeting room, Denison. Following, Helen Lewis will present Women of Warmth, Wedding, and War.
   

• November 26, 6:00 p.m., Dinner at Reed House, Denison, followed by a review of Three Cups of Tea, written by Greg Mortenson.
   

• December 10,           Cronks Cafe in Denison: Yuletide Social Event. Each member is to bring one toy, to be donated to a local nursery school. "No bake" bake sale to be held. Carol Sing.
   

• February 25, 6:00 p.m. Dinner at Cronks. Harriet Brust, Nancy Foutch, and Kathy Brandon will present "Observations of Gender Equity in Italy, a first-hand account."
   

• March 30, 5:00 p.m., Dinner at Cronks. Senior Girls honor Program. Speaker to be announced.
   

• April 11-12, AAUW State Convention at Simpson College, Indianola
   

• May 17, 11:30 a.m. Luncheon at Cronks. Women of Distinction candidates will be recognized , and the winner announced.
